Pilates
offers you a safe, tried and tested way of achieving
a state of mental and physical balance, through a series of movements
which
will not only stretch, tone and strengthen the muscles but can also aid
in
recovery from injury and help to prevent further injury.
Relief
from back pain,
relief from stress, improved agility and flexibility, greater body
-awareness,
adoption of proper breathing techniques and the creation of a body that
is
long, lean, supple and strong is the Pilates promise.
The Pilates
method offers a series of exercises performed
either on specially designed equipment or on floor mats.

Each
exercise is built
around the 8 key principles of Pilates:
- Relaxation
- Breathing
- Control
- Flowing
Movements
- Alignment
- Co-ordination
- Centering
- Stamina
Each
of these
exercises is designed to strengthen the lower back, the stomach and the
shoulder area, thereby creating a “girdle of strength” which then
allows the
rest of the body to function efficiently. This strengthening of the
“core” of
the body is done predominantly in the horizontal position thereby
eliminating
gravity, centering the body, aligning the spine and avoiding undue
stress on the
lower back or the neck area - perfect for those with back problems as
it means
they are able to exercise without causing further back problems.
These
exercises are designed to elongate and
slim the muscle rather than build bulk so the result is a body which is
longer,
leaner more supple with greater strength.

The
beauty of the Pilates fitness method is that a program
can be tailored to suit the needs of an individual, regardless of age
or level
of physical fitness and you can progress at your own pace.
From
the very first
session, you will see and feel the progress you are making. Unlike
other
physical fitness regimes which can leave you feeling exhausted and
drained, at
the end of each Pilates session you will feel energized, invigorated
and
refreshed, be more in touch with your own body and have a great sense
of
satisfaction from knowing that slowly but surely you are on the way to
a “new
you”. The deep breathing techniques that
are used whilst performing these exercises will help to eliminate
tension and
increase stamina.
There is no doubt
that if the Pilates program is followed,
week by week, you will see changes not only in your physical well-being
but you
will find that you are achieving greater balance between your body and
mind. |
